Who is the LEADER Region Wetterau / Oberhessen?

We are LEADER region since 2007. This means that the Wetterau / Oberhessen region is part of a European funding programme to shape rural areas. This includes everyone who lives or works in these 19 municipalities: Altenstadt, Büdingen, Echzell, Gedern, Glauburg, Hirzenhain, Kefenrod, Limeshain, Nidda, Ortenberg, Ranstadt, Butzbach, Florstadt, Münzenberg, Reichelsheim, Rockenberg, Wölfersheim and soon also Niddatal and Ober-Mörlen.

LEADER is characterised by its grassroots democratic approach. The basis for this is the "Local Action Group" (LAG). This is an association of social and economic partners, but also private individuals from the region, who decide together which projects are to be promoted. The LEADER group is supported by Wirtschaftsförderung Wetterau GmbH, which is based in Friedberg.

A new development strategy for the region!

For the new LEADER funding period starting in 2023, a local development strategy (LES) is being developed for the region so that the funding can have a targeted and sustainable effect in the municipalities. For this purpose, a participation process will start at the end of November, which is intended to generate a broad range of locally related project ideas with the help of committed associations, businesses, municipalities and citizens.

The application documents must be submitted to the state of Hesse at the end of May 2022. In addition to the cross-cutting topics like digitalisation, sustainability and climate protection, the important fields of action from 2023 onwards are "Equal living conditions and services of general interest, economic development and regional supply structures through small and micro-enterprises, local recreation and tourism, and bio-economy".

Why a participation platform?

With this platform we want to stimulate the exchange between administration, citizens and politics and make our dialogue more transparent. We are committed to an appreciative culture of discussion. All users of this participation platform therefore agree to our terms of use. You are prepared to make your contributions within the framework of our online house rules, netiquette, and to inspire others to participate constructively on your own responsibility.
